I’M GLAD YOU ASKED

POEM

No body will realize that at some point we all live in fear.
Fear of facing a generation that has it all on social media but lacks in reality.
Fear of how time is moving really fast that it becomes so hard for some to catch up,
And  fear of the Lord.

Hence, the question..

How are you?

This is how we all start a conversation.
sometimes it comes with a huge smile that would mean otherwise. But…I’m glad you asked.

The question posed is something we are all used to
sometimes we find ourselves responding “I'm Alright, thanks for asking”  before we think about how we really feel because it’s a formality.

When I’m asked how I’m doing, some days I want to say it out loud, I’m glad you asked because I needed someone to hear me out.

“I’m glad you asked.. my soul deep down is shouting out for help but  no, you can’t hear me can you? My smile tell a whole different story.

I know you’re not a therapist but i beg to ask, do you really care how I’m doing or you want to know if im doing well enough to enjoy the version of me playing in your head.
Allow me not to play a part in a script you write of me in your head cause I am not a good actor.

I despise how such an over-weighted question “How are you” is asked just for formality’s sake.

I promise that next time I’ll sound convincing enough, so best believe that I am glad you asked.

One thing I’ve learnt is that in the end, it’ll all be alright.

We get too impatient to get answers now but at the end it’ll all be worth it.

I’m still glad that you asked.
